CAV Systems (CAV) is a leading provider of ice protection and drag-reduction technology to the general aviation, commercial aerospace, and defence markets worldwide. The only supplier of fluid-based ice protection systems globally and the leading supplier of laser-perforated surfaces, CAV has operated as a critical technology and manufacturing partner to major commercial OEMs since 1942.
Working alongside aircraft engineers, CAV assists in the design, testing, analysis, manufacture, integration, and approval of unique technology solutions to address critical safety challenges and increase flight efficiency.
New Horizons
Having consolidated and sold off a number of its business units, CAV became an independent business in 2015 and has been supported by Baird Capital since 2017. With new investment and global resources, CAV is now driving the business’s growth and innovation strategy forward to further penetrate and cement its leading position as a tier 1 supplier in the aviation and aerospace markets.
CAV’s independent status led the company to reduce its global sites from 11 to just three, and consequently, CAV reviewed the performance of all its back-office systems. Following an evaluation of requirements, a decision was made to upgrade to the current version of Infor SyteLine via business software consultancy Inforlogic.

Having used Infor SyteLine for many years, CAV had every confidence that it was the right solution, but needed a modern platform and new capabilities to support a shift in the business. The upgrade to the latest version was designed to capitalise on new functionality built on robust modern infrastructure.

New Capabilities
Following a smooth deployment, Infor SyteLine now supports CAV across several key areas.
The nature of the aerospace industry means that many projects in which CAV is involved are collaborative and complex, spanning Government agencies, aircraft owners, and OEMs. The robust project management capabilities in Infor SyteLine, which include granular tracking of objectives, costs, and inventory, are imperative for demonstrating visibility and fostering communication. Integrated with a dedicated quality control solution to optimise standards, the solution also efficiently supports regulatory requirements and compliance.
In parallel, the CRM module is supporting CAV’s customer focus, in particular for the aircraft aftermarket, facilitating enhanced relationship management and customer visibility.

“From a business perspective, we now have the tools to generate a much deeper understanding of our business,” comments Andrew Porteous, VP, Business Improvement and Services.
“The team is able to look to the future and plan accordingly using the APS capabilities, which means that we are able to be much more proactive in our operations. As a result of this enhanced planning, our OTIF has increased by more than 30% and is now in the mid-90s (%).”
Infrastructure-wise, the use of virtual servers has led to a more robust risk profile for CAV, with seamless backups and disaster recovery processes that were fundamental to future-proofing the company’s operations.
